The AFL was founded founded in 1897 as the Victorian Football League and was called as such until 1990 when the league allowed interstate teams into the competition

CompetitonEdit

Each team plays 22 games over the course of a 23 round season and at the end of the regular season the top 8 teams play off for the premiership which is more often the not played on the last day of September with the winner been crowned champion. There is also a pre-season which is not even remotley inportant to anyone as it's just a chance to see how new players go. Basically it is a competition for the lower teams.
